Let Her Rage
Runway music composition for the garment collection
Rage Consumes Her designed by Agnė Mankevičiūtė
When Agnė told me about the themes for her garment collection, I was instantly drawn to it. The core of this collection is female anger. This is something that is not often explored enough, for example, this anger is often internalised and turns into sadness. However, when this anger is released, women are often seen as crazy, insensitive, and becoming monsters. Agnė built her collection around this concept. She took the imagery of female monsters and created her looks inspired by these stories, visuals and most importantly - the emotion.
First, the idea screaming women came to my mind. This led me to recording the designer herself screaming. By further researching into the topic, for example, reading the book Rage Becomes Her by Soraya Chemaly, I was inspired by the breaking dished imagery. This was followed by Agnė and I smashing dishes in the kitchen recording all of the noise. As well as that, Agnė liked the piano as a key part of the composition. This instrument signified the frustration of internalising that rage, not being able to fully release it out. With the screams, dishes and piano, I processed the files, allowing me to generate more experimental electro-acoustic sounds. All together it creates the composition Let Her Rage which accompanies Agnė's collection as its runway music.
